Protection Warrior

Hello my fellow guildys, I thought I would write a more informatic post about/to protection warriors.


Try to obtain a decent amount of armor - 21k armor which shouldn't be too hard with all the gear from questrewards and dungeons (even normal ones)
Before entering a heroic or naxx you should aim for 22k hp, 21k armor and 540 defense, and this should be obtainable if not through gear then easily through enchants. (not enchanting for armor ofc.) Startergear for heroics last in post.


Critical Hit immunity for a level 80 player against a heroic dungeon boss occurs at 535 Defense and requires a defense skill of 135 from gear to achieve.
Critical Hit immunity for a level 80 player against a raid boss occurs at 540 Defense and requires a defense skill of 140 (689 +def rating) from gear to achieve.
There's no need to go past 540 defense, but the stats aren't wasted, they will still add Parry, Dodge and Block - which is the only way to increase your block if you can't get rating on your gear. If you solely need avoidance gemming for dodge is your best option as its the best stat per point. Parry is a more expensive stat as it doesn't scale as well as dodge. I wouldn't advice getting dodge above 25%, instead I would gem for parry or stamina.

No more crushing blows in raids so no reason to obtain 102.5% avoidance.
As of patch 3.0, crushing blows can only happen if a mob attacks a player at least FOUR levels lower. Because "boss" level mobs are still considered to be level 83, they cannot crushing blow any level 80 character.


Head enchant: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44150 - Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector - 37 stamina and 20 defense rating.
Shoulder enchant: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44132 - Lesser Inscription of the Pinnacle (equals to aldor/scryer exalted ones) - 15 dodge rating and 10 defense rating. (There's also an exalted version from Sons of Hodir, use that when you get exalted with them- minor stat upgrade)
Cloak enchant: Lots of options here, 16 def rating, 22 agi or even 225 armor. If you haven't reached crit immunity go for the defense one. If you have reached immunity go for agi as that provide some threat.
Chest enchant: Again, lots of options; 275 hp, 22 def rating, 10 all stats. You should still consider whether or not you reached immunity cap, if you got decent amount of hp and def you could go for 10 all stats as its more threat. (but very very expensive)
Bracer enchant: There's really no contest atm, you should never consider anything but 40 stamina unless you're a leatherworker. (Hello 90 stam!)
Gloves enchant: In my opinion there's only one obvious choice here and that armsman - 2% threat and 10 parry rating is awesome. If you're ok for threat you could go for 18 stamina. Besides that there's hit and expertise.
Leg enchant: 55 sta + 22 agi - its about 200-300g on ah? If you got rare legs go for 45 stam instead, but if you want to impress me and others take the expensive one.
Boot enchant: 22 stamina - or tuskars vitality, I prefer more stamina. Speed might be better later on.

Weapon enchant: lots of choices again; I went for titanium weapon chain which gives 28 hit rating and 50% disarm duration. Mongoose seems to be the best option if you're hit capped tho.
Shield enchant: I don't really like the options atm altho there's been added a block value enchant from blacksmithing. Other choices are spikes, stamina and again defense rating. You still want to go for defense if you're not crit immune.

Besides that always get a belt buckle so you can add an extra gem to your belt, its like 70g now i think.

Gemwise, I'd really like to see you going for rare gems whenever you can and if your economy is up for it - if not warriors can ask me for gems.

Glyphs:
Major ones - Glyph of Revenge, Glyph of Heroic Strike and Glyph of Sunder Armor.

Minor ones - Glyph of Thunder Clap, Glyph of Battle and Glyph of Enduring Victory.

If you have any suggestions or my glyphs are all wrong please post your opinion, I'm sure I don't know all glyphs for warriors.
